Papa deserves a Father’s Day

To my dearest grandpa,

My bio dad passed away almost 2 years ago now. And to say we had a strained relationship would be a gross understatement. We didn’t have one at all.

But you were the man that stepped up and became the man, the father, that I needed in my life. I have looked up to you . I admire your strength, your tenacity, your ability to make all of us frustrated with one single sentence. And yet, we know that is you. That is your way of loving us and we wouldn’t change that for the world.

I love that when I just needed to sit with you, we would just sit there, saying nothing because nothing needed to be said, watching the Eagles dance above the wetlands. I love that you challenge me. You push my buttons, and I owe my stubbornness to you, and I wouldn’t change that for the world.

I love that because of you, the man I fell in love with and married, is just like you in so many ways. And I wouldn’t change that for the world.

You taught me how to fight for our convictions. You taught me to laugh and love after every fight. That a little bickering here and there is important to a marriage. And I wouldn’t change that for the world.

You taught me that a father does not need to be your bio dad, but one that loves and cares for you, makes sure your homework is done, watches you graduate, “schools” the significant other, and gives you big warm embraces every night before bed. And I wouldn’t change that for the world.

I don’t know what the future holds for us. But I will take the journey with you and be by your side, as you have been by mine for so many years. on your magical adventures. We will smile goofily together as each adventure comes to an end. And I wouldn’t change that for the world.

You are our Superman. You are my Superman. And I love you. Happy Papa’s Day.
